We’ve gone through many stages of learning to write in our school: reluctant writers, frustrated writers, bored writers, curious writers, and imaginative writers (I love it!).
Over the years, we’ve tested countless writing programs and curricula in a relentless effort to keep writing fun and engaging. While we have some success stories with some programs, I find that one of the best ways to get kids engaged in writing is to combine fun activities with our regular curriculum.
When children have fun, they want to write more, which helps them develop creative writing skills and become better writers. Introducing them to different ways of generating creative ideas in writing and thinking about writing turns stressful activities that were once a thing of the past into a favorite pastime.

The amount of guidance each student needs will vary according to their age and ability. By design, comics and novels, the graphics are spot on. They have no room for content that leads.

So it’s a good idea to take the time to plan ahead and plan what’s going to happen in the short story, using a story editor or just sketching out a quick script. They’ll want to know what will go into each square before they start drawing honestly.

There are many ways that two or more people can work together to write a short story. The method you choose will depend on who you’re working with, how much time you have, and what your goals are. Here are two options:

Agree in advance how you will know when the project is complete. Do you want a certain number of words or pages? Or do you just want to see a story with a beginning, middle and end? Perhaps you want them to apply a specific concept, such as seeing the number of similes and metaphors they can use.
You can have them agree on a theme and outline beforehand, or you can add modifications without making them talk about it beforehand and let them lie.
Another option is to have a group of students work together and have them each write a sentence or paragraph of a story and then share their story with the people around them. That person continues the story while whoever started it continues the other person’s story. Keep going through them in a circle until everyone integrates into each story and can then share it with each other.
In my experience, children enjoy creating stories more than writing, especially when they are young. The physical activity of putting their thoughts on paper takes a lot of time, and because their hands can’t move as fast as they think, children are often frustrated.
