In June, Tesla finally began taking delivery of the new Model S — starting with the new high-performance Plaid version, which also received a $10,000 price hike last month.
A few weeks later, when Tesla began shipping a new base version of the Model S, the Model S Long Range, Tesla raised the price of the car by $5,000.
The price went from $84,990 to $89,990 overnight and is now up $10,000 in the last month.
Meanwhile, Tesla is offering a limited amount of the base version of the new Model S as it focuses on delivering the Plaid version, which still starts at $129,990.

Especially when it comes to the Model S, I think it’s likely that Tesla is being opportunistic here and taking advantage of strong demand.
With the launch of the new version of the electric sedan, the price of the base model S increased by almost 30 percent from $69,420 to $89,990.

Sure, it’s easier to justify leaning toward the Model X now, but basically any Tesla model will do. Of course the 3 will be the smallest and tightest of the four options, but many have car seats in cars of the same size or smaller, so I’m sure you’ll be fine. [

The Model Y is (again) a happy medium, providing enough room for a child or two in the back without committing to a much larger vehicle.

Verdict: As before, take your pick. Now it’s easier to suggest going with X, but Y would probably be the most reasonable option, unless you’re a falcon door fan. Model 3 will also work, but will be the most compact option.
So what if you have 4-6 children or often travel with a large number of family members? Well, now your options may be more limited.
The Model X is currently the only Tesla model with third-row seats. You can have a 6-seat configuration that turns the middle row into two captain’s chairs, or a 7-seat configuration that keeps the bench in the middle row with two folding seats in the back.
But if you’re willing to wait, your options expand a bit. First, the Model Y has a 7-seat option – but it won’t be in production until 2021, so you’ll have to wait a bit.

Your Only Options With a plug-in version of the Model S coming later this year, Tesla thinks it’s a good time to bring back the 2+5 seating that was available on the older Model S. Verdict: Do you need it now? Model X. Can you wait another year? Then you can add Model Y or Model S to your consideration list. Model 3? It is possible but it can get very crowded.
This is probably the most subjective part of an already subjective list. In our opinion, the Model Y offers (perhaps) the best value of any Tesla out there.
For most people, 300 miles or so is more than enough for daily driving, so the extra range the S/X allows isn’t the biggest benefit given the extra cost. The materials used inside the S/X are no flashier than the 3/Y – at least not because of the price difference.

The numbers speak for themselves. And the S/X has (now) taken up a smaller percentage of sales over time, with car buyers looking for more value in the 3 and now the Y.
