Economic Activities In The Southern Colonies – This storyboard activity is part of a lesson plan for the events leading up to the American Revolution

The American colonies provided the British Empire with goods and resources that were not readily available at home. Comparing and contrasting different regions is a great way for students to understand how the colonies contributed to the British economy, as well as why certain regions were more valuable.

By dividing their grid into three regions (New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern Colonies), students explore and identify the means of production for each colony and identify each regional economy. The other half of their grid determined what was produced and how each colony benefited the British Empire economically. It serves as a visual and comparative chart for students to explore the differences between regional British colonies, as well as how Britain used and benefited from each region.
