Deca Startup Business Plan Example – Recently, some DECA members asked me for advice on a writing contest. After researching DECA Direct for advice, I realized that there was no master document full of tips, so I decided to write my own. This tutorial will describe the process and framework I used for DECA Glass last year.
Greetings! Before we begin, I think you should know something about me. My name is Andrew Weatherman. I wrote this article to help members through the difficult journey of competing in a written event. In 2017, I placed second in the International Business Planning category at ICDC in Anaheim, California.

Information regarding the phasing out of Marketing Representative Events and the implementation of Integrated Marketing Campaign Events will be discussed.
Removed double spacing requirement for “main content”. And as a result, the length of the written event page was adjusted.
First of all, if you are reading this to prepare for Atlanta, congratulations on making it to ICDC! Becoming ICDC compliant is no easy task, so you should be proud of your achievement. If you’re serious about competing in Atlanta, go ahead and read these tips (and guides if you’re not!) As ICDC approaches, I’ve had a few questions about submissions and also how to make your article unique. Here is a collection of my top tips for ICDC!
Competitive Events Topics Announced For 2022 2023
As with the rest of this guide, feel free to take my advice as it is. I don’t know your project; I do not know the strength of your presentation; I don’t know what works for you and/or your group. I’m just a guy behind a computer. You do, but these are my suggestions.
If you don’t know, you can edit your CDC document before submitting your ICDC document. (You bring your paper to ICDC and present it at the conference.) However, this
Give you the green light to randomly edit your paper. If you got a perfect score on your executive summary section and suddenly feel like the score isn’t there, why edit your paper?! (This may sound like common sense, but you’d be surprised how many people do this.) However, if you score poorly on the finance section, I would definitely recommend editing. In addition, I recommend reading your article and correcting any grammatical errors that hinder comprehension and fluency, and double-checking for penalty points.
In short, if you have a good (read: perfect or near-perfect) score in any section, don’t edit it in front of ICDC! If you make too many changes to the essay, the paper becomes unreadable and loses its power; Similarly, the quality of a highly edited DECA document is inversely correlated with the number of wasteful edits.
Deca International Business Plan
A quick walk through the storage rooms at ICDC reveals high-tech, colorful presentation boards. (Seriously, there should be a contest to see who can contain the most iPads.) To some, this may seem intimidating. Personally, I’ve been rocking a PowerPoint and a clicker, so I was afraid that these elaborate highlighter boards would embarrass me. (A man in Nashville used a rolling clothes hanger and a toilet paper roll for life [Read:
If you’re working with one of these boards, great! You have the perfect opportunity to impress your judge with a solid sound and beautiful aesthetics – making it hard to forget you. If you’re like me and work with a simple, non-animated PowerPoint, get ready to give the best pitch of your life.
Side note: A hybrid of the two methods I’m going to discuss exists and will likely be used by many people. Instead of thinking of this as an explanation of extremes, think of it as an outline of how to achieve perfection in your mix.
Generally, a fancy sign will take away from your speaking. If you’re not the best public speaker, but you’re a great designer, look for a standout board! Chances are, your judges won’t be able to take their eyes off it. However, you need to make your board effective. Do you have solar panels on your triple board? Cold.

Do you get the point? A tasteful presentation board is a great way to grab the attention of your judges and make them remember you. But, don’t overdo it: profilgate board is the death of a big project. Also, a high-tech presentation board – and not
– Compensate for weak pitch. However, if you’re going to go with a presentation board, follow these tips to get the most out of it.
In general, a simple presentation (mostly a PPT) won’t blow your judge’s socks off; this is a given. So how do you impress them? Make a perfect sound. If you consider yourself a strong public speaker, definitely consider going this route. A complicated presentation board takes the focus away from your presentation. Even better, if you can include an opening that invokes pathos, ie.
The best way to go. However, it is not without its downsides. Namely, this method won’t leave your judge with the “wow” factor (in addition to your spoken word) that many contestants who go the latter route will have. In addition, this method relies only on large verbal volume. If you get this wrong, your project is likely to fail.

Then go with a presentation board designed by an expert. Even if the judges aren’t paying attention to you, your effective board will give them all the information they need for their “selected audition” while being impressed by your design skills. Options range from triangles to life-size toilet paper rolls on a rolling clothes rack. elections
Then switch to a traditional PowerPoint presentation. While this option may be tiring for some, you can be sure that your speaking skills will leave a lasting impression on the judge about your impeccable project.
Well, 2017 was the first year I competed in a written program at ICDC and no one told me you had to bring your ID. When you go to deliver the paper. (Dylan Heneghan’s daughter will go to the hotel to pick it up for me.) So note, when you go to submit your document to ICDC, you must bring or return a photo ID. Your hotel, pick up your ID and wait in a very long line – again.
To be honest: I wasn’t quite sure how the competition worked at ICDC. In North Carolina – and in many states – we do not have preliminary rounds at the CDC. However, these rounds are available at ICDC and are two steps away from that coveted DECA bottle.
The Ultimate Written Event Guide
Is it round? In this round, you will be competing against 19 projects (give or take depending on your schedule). To advance from the preliminary stage and be recognized as an international finalist (blue ribbon medal), you must be one of the top two scoring projects from your group. Each competition has approximately 160 participants; Again, depending on your event, 16-20 projects will advance to the final stage. International finalists will be announced at the Achievement Awards session (the morning of the Grand Awards).
Business and elections coincide with the season, so make sure you have someone who can call and vote for you (or have your association handle it). It is also possible that your competitive time is very good,
Achievement Awards near the end of the season. If your event is one of the most recently announced, I suggest skipping the photo-op and running to check your race times: photos can wait; You don’t want to miss the timing of your presentation, and you might want to review your speech one last time.
In the round, each project was submitted to the same judge. It is more important to give that one

(a large red, white and blue ribbon medallion with a leadership pin) and was called to the stage. Three of those ten will be awarded the DECA Glass award.
Trust is key in everything and this is especially true at ICDC. If you go into the pitch thinking you have the worst draft ever, you probably won’t do very well. However, on the contrary, you astronomically increase your chances of getting a glass. (This is 100% backed by thorough scientific research—no doubt about it.) All kidding aside, the judges can tell you’re worried. It’s okay to be nervous too (it really proves you
